The Crucible Sun

May 08, 2016 · Digital Cinema Projects

Shot in 4 countries and 5 US states, The Crucible Sun incorporates footage from NASA to merge the earthly with the unearthly.

Originally created and submitted for the Cinespace 2015 short film competition put on by NASA and the Houston Cinema Arts Society. The competition required that participants use at least 10% of content from NASA’s vast library of Media and mix it with original content. The first thing I thought of was literally blending my time-lapse and NASA’s time-lapse together in interesting ways.

“The atoms and molecules in your body are traceable to the crucibles in the centers of stars that manufacture these elements over its lifespan, which means not only are we in the universe, the universe is in us. That is a profound concept.”
– Neil deGrasse Tyson

All footage aside from NASA materials was shot by Lance Page. Many of these clips are licensable directly from our License Footage page
