The official video for Trevor Green’s Voice of the Wind reflects on human connectedness, fragility and loss.
Voice of the Wind is our second music video production for southern California musician Trevor Green. Trevor’s music is in a class of it’s own, his tracks are vibrant with heartfelt honesty and a strong sense of depth. They praise the human spirit without shying away from the heavy stuff.
This video is about a lot of things but for me the first word that comes to mind is loss. In some strange cosmic way, this video’s production as well as the entire album project seemed to have revolved around the loss of loved ones, both as a theme of the content and simultaneously in real life.
Last year Trevor and his family raised money for what turned out to be a very powerful journey to Australia that would inspire his new album ‘Voice of the Wind’. A few weeks before the trip, one of Trevor’s dear friends took his own life. One week later Trevor met someone going through a similar grieving process, a mother who lost her son to suicide. Before his passing, he had booked a trip to Australia. This ended up being a huge part of the Green family’s journey, watch the video for the powerful story.
After returning from Australia and recording the new album, Trevor and I collaborated on a music video project for his title track. We shot the first leg of production in Oregon, then I went to my hometown in Hawaii to enjoy time with some friends. While I was there I received the terrible news that my closest childhood friend, who I grew up with on the island and since remained very close, had taken his own life in California weeks before his 30th birthday. Needless to say I was devastated. While dealing with the loss of a very close friend for the first time in my life, I realized that I found comfort in continuing work on this project. Voice of the Wind seemed to serve as part of a healing process for me and for many of us dealing with loss.
Our second leg of production took place in southern California, Trevor had the idea of bringing in a strong human presence to the video. One that doesn’t shy away from the heaviest emotions. We invited over 50 beautiful humans to pour their hearts out into the camera lens without using any words. Every facial expression and emotion in the video is genuine and comes from a place of truth. And each person seemed to find a sense of therapy from the experience, each in different ways. Some were also dealing with loss, others were incredibly joyful. We were absolutely blown away by the humbling experience and incredible overall outcome.
Thanks for watching and for your support, ultimately this is a piece of art intended to open minds and inspire positive growth here on Planet Earth during a time when we need it most.
