"Sulphur Banks Lavabow" - Kilauea's 2024 Eruption Lava Rainbow
It was totally rainy and windy all night long but the bright lava fountain from the 2024 summit eruption was casting enough lava light through the rain to create this lava rainbow over two miles away from where the fountain was. Captured at the popular Sulphur Banks lookout just down the hill from the Visitor Center in Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
This image was taken during Kilauea’s third eruption in 2024 occurring within Halemama’uma’u Crater on Dec. 23rd. The eruption featured high fountains occurring on and off through Christmas and into New Years 2025.
