According to USGS episode 36 fountains featured the highest volume of lava output yet. After days and days of spillovers from both the north and south vents, the north vent began the main fountain and almost immediately the south vent joined. The fountains reached full height quickly and ended in just 5 hours.

Episode 34 featured the glorious return of the south vent high fountain action after the north vent started it off. This time the south vent blasted off to be the highest lava fountain yet (at the time) at 1300’ high according to USGS. The eruption episode lasted just 6 hours and went through a beautifully vibrant sunrise just before abruptly shutting down around 7am.

Episode 34 featured the glorious return of the south vent high fountain action. Though this time it blasted off to be the highest lava fountain yet (at the time) at 1300’ high according to USGS. We were capturing the north vent from the Overlook and suddenly we see the south vent rise up from behind and reach heights twice what the north vent was already reaching.

Episode 18 aligned with an absolutely stunning sunrise at Kaluapele. (Kilauea Caldera) We camped out a couple nights to anticipate the eruption episode and be there when she starts up. As the fountains peaked with height and power, the plume was rising into the sky with the most mesmerizing colors as the sunlight starting washing in. I was able to capture this ultra wide angle showing the scene from Keanakako’i lookout on April 22nd, 2025.

Episode 16 was another dramatic high fountain event with low winds and spectacular lighting. Some time before sunset the sun shined down through a gap in the clouds and created these goddess rays beaming around the rising lava fountain. The scene was beyond magical with hundreds of people out at the lookouts enjoying the scene.

Episode 9 on the morning of February 12th, 2025 was nothing but magic. This was earlier in the am hours as I was by myself standing at the edge of Kaluapele. The full moon was shining bright and clashing with the extremely bright lava light coming from the twin fountains of episode 9.

Kilauea’s only summit eruption in 2024 lasted through the holidays and into 2025. This was Dec. 25th, Christmas morning at sunrise during the 2nd episode of this eruption.

This image was taken during Kilauea’s third eruption in 2024 occurring within Halemama’uma’u Crater on Dec. 23rd. The eruption featured high fountains occurring on and off through Christmas and into New Years 2025.

The ongoing stop and go eruption at Kilauea summit continued through its 4th phase featuring these beautiful twin fountains reaching around 330ft according to USGS. This image was captured on January 16th as the sun was rising the caldera was filling up with ambient light around the bright lava fountains.

This image was captured on January 16th and as I returned to the car that morning I learned of the passing of David Lynch, one of my all time heroes. So of course Twin Peaks had to be the title of this one.

Down “end of the world” is my go to spot to catch all kinds of magic including sunsets, huge wave explosions on the jagged black lava rocks and fascinating landscapes up and down the coast.
